ISDG 2002

Dear collegues,

We suggest to hold the ISDG-2002 symposium in one of the remarkable places - in Saint-Petersburg which is famous all over the world. We can offer two variants of holding the symposium. First, we can hold it on the board of one of the comfortable vessels "Saint-Petersburg" or "Kronshtadt" having at the same time a spectacular tour to Kighi - a beautiful example of the early wooden architecture. The first wooden churches appeared on the grounds of the Kighi island in the 14th century and later were combined in the great ecclesiastical complex. The most famous of them Transformation church and Pokrov church were build in the 18th century. The river cruise lasted for 4 days. On the way to Kighi we'll make a stop and have a chance to visit another interesting place - Valaam island. We'll have a tour on the grounds of the island and visit one of the oldest monastery. The motor ship have double and single cabins with toilet, shower and conditioning inside. Also there are sauna on the board. All in all the ship can accommodate about 250 people. Breakfast, lunch and dinner would be served at the restaurant on the main desk. Banquet would be organised during the tour.

On the board of the vessel there are conference hall (about 100 places), restaurant, music saloon and several small rooms which can be used for the pleanary meetings and the work of sections. The cost of the tour would be equal to the sum of the rent of the ship and the cost of the meal for all participants. If we have 150 participants and accompaning persons the price at present time would be 300-350 USD per person.

Secondly, we can hold the symposium in Saint-Petersburg. Then the participants and accompaning personers can stop at the hotels in the center of the city such as:

For students and participant with low income we can suggest accommodation in University hostels. For groups we can have a discount. In this case the symposium would be held at the main building of Saint-Petersburg State University or at the House of Scientist on the embankment of the river Neva. For participants and accompaning persons we can offer various excursional program: Sightseeing tour, Hermitage, Peter and Paul fortress, Russian museum, St.Isaac Cathedral, Jusupov's palace - the place where was killed Grigoryi Rasputin, trips on rivers and canals of Saint-Petersburg, tours to the suburbs of Saint-Petersburg (the former summer estates of the royal family): Tsar's Village, Peterghof, Pavlovsk.

We guess that appropriate month for the symposium is September.

Local organizing committee will consists of five persons and may be formed before ISDG Symposium in Australia. University server will be available to put all information about the symposium including on-line registration forms.
